City Council

Council.2

We invite you to attend all open meetings of  City Council on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm.  Length of meeting times will vary according to the number of topics on the agenda.  At each meeting the Mayor updates City Council regarding administrative business. The Law Director is also present at each meeting to offer legal guidance on any necessary issues. Most administrative staff members report on specific matters within their specialty field and each member of City Council gives a report based on any issues regarding their specific ward, council committees or general announcements of public interest.

Members of the public are permitted and encouraged to speak to voice concerns, ask questions, offer opinions at each meeting. Each resident must complete a form prior to the start of the meeting so they will be called upon. Any resident wishing to speak will be asked to identify themselves and state their address for the record.

All legislation is first introduced during the meeting. Generally, all legislation is read at three consecutive meetings after which time a vote is called. Four members of City Council are required to vote in the affirmative for the measure to pass and become law.

Closed sessions only occur when executive sessions are called to discuss pending litigation, property acquisition or personnel matters. Otherwise the doors are open and all are invited. Your ideas, thoughts, suggestions are always welcome.  Please contact your ward councilmen and or council at large representative at any time.  You may email directly or leave a message with the Clerk of Council.  Remember you are the voice of our community.  We look forward to hearing from you!
